1. Spend Time with Your Kids

You as parents are going to spend 90% of all time with your kids by the time, they turn 12. That statistic is scary but being scared isn’t going to bring time back. Spend as much time as possible with your kids, whether it being watching a movie with them, or having dinner. You have your whole lifetime to get that promotion but your kids are going to live with you only until they’re 18.

There are plenty of ways to spend time with your kids here’s an article to help if you can’t think of anything.. But, even if you don’t do any of those activities, it is important to spend quality time with your kids.

2. Instil a Love for Books in them

Books are entertaining and informative at the same time. You get time to finish the chores while they are entertained and studying at the same time. Books can sometimes be quite expensive but that is an investment you should be willing to make. Because once your kid falls in love with reading, it sets them up for life.

It’s a Win-Win Situation, you get peace of mind to finish some work or have some me time and they while they go on an adventure with Sherlock Holmes or Harry Potter. It’s an investment any parent would be willing to make.

3. Talk To Them (And listen)

Children are social beings like any human being but unfortunately, they have specific times to socialize and are only allowed to talk to a specific number of individuals. When they talk to you and you don’t listen it tells them they aren’t worth listening to.

Talk to them about what happened in school that day, about how their day went or what their plan is for the day. That was you not only know what is on their mind that day but also it helps them practice their social skills in a safe environment.

Listening to them will help you as a parent tremendously because then you can have a better conversation with them on something they love.

Asking Questions is as important as talking to them with your complete and uninterrupted attention. Asking Open ended questions about anything they do, maybe they draw, ask about that, if they read ask about that, if they sing or play an instrument, ask about it. Ask open ended questions helps you learn about them and helps them take the lead in the conversation and steer it towards where they want to.

4. A Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is a must for a child as it sets them up for years to come. It not only helps your child in being and staying healthy but also helps them in trying other cuisines and dishes which they wouldn’t have otherwise.

This also helps in reducing tantrums about food since they’ve already been eating something different and healthy since they’ve been a baby. It helps them get accustomed to eating everything rather than just the dishes they enjoy or approve of. Remember to have them try something they don’t like in 7 years since their tastebuds change every 7 years.

5. Be a Role Model

Children learn from whatever is around them, not from what you ask them to do. If you ask them to wash their hands before having a meal, you should do that too. If you ask them to do their homework on time, you finish your work before time as well. This sets a good example for them.

A Child learns from what’s around them also means that you pick the places your child visits on a fairly frequent basis carefully. Maybe going to a larger more open park is let’s them play soccer and volleyball or even both. It might also mean they get to socialize with others their age and they will learn from these children as well. Sometimes what they learn will be good, others won’t be a great experience.
